The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress celebrates 4 years of activism against state sponsored homophobia and continues to fight for universal LGTBI+ rights. The heart-wrenching message communicated through the beauty and drama of the dress sparked international interest. We have been fortunate to display the dress all over the world, from New York to South Africa, from Madrid to Seoul. What started as a creative idea, sparked conversations and inspired the world. Four year ago, during the 2016 Amsterdam Pride, the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress saw the light.

From July 27 to August 5, the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress was shown where she is at home. The Amsterdam Museum, together with COC Amsterdam organized the “Shakespeare Club”. The Amsterdam Rainbow Dress was shown throughout the pride week in the museum where we organized a Gallery Talk with LGBTI + refugees on 31 July.

From monday June 24 until June 30 the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress Foundation was in NYC for world pride. The story behind the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress and the fight it stands for, fitted seamlessly with the commemoration of the Stonewall Riots 50 years ago.

From 8-11 August the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress was on display at Muhka (Museum of contemporary art) in Antwerp. The dress was exhibited there as part of the Antwerp Pride. On Friday, August 9, we participated in a panel discussion about LGBTI+ Human Rights.

From December 8th – 15th 2018 the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress Foundation visited South Africa. Invited by the Dutch embassy in Pretoria, the dress was presented at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg during the international Human Rights day, which is celebrated every year on December 10th.

On August 2nd 2018 the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress was presented at Europride 2018 in Stockholm, sponsored by the Embassy of the Kingdom in the Netherlands. Europride is a particularly important event for the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress, as it was created during Europride 2016 in Amsterdam.

During Amsterdam 2018 Pride the dress was on display at Amsterdam’s OLVG City Hospital. After traveling around the world it was good to have the Dress on display in its hometown.

From July 12th to 16th, the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress Foundation attended the Queer Culture Festival held in Seoul. The SQCF organisation joined forces with the Dutch embassy in South Korea in order to tell our story and connect with Korea’s LGBTIQ+ community.

From July 4th to 8th, the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress was in the Spanish capital for Madrid Pride. Invited by the Dutch embassy in Madrid, we proudly presented the dress in different locations throughout the event. In addition, we held two photo sessions, the first in the iconic Museo del Prado, and a second in the parade itself.
